Got a couple new things at the top of my inbox early this week that just needed a quick “SUP”.
Let me break it down. New Kavinsky. New Vitalic.
Let me start in reverse alphabetical order. Vitalic. He’s been on a steady roll lately, amiright? (check here) This new one off his latest “Second Lives EP” is for the lack of anything better. awesome. It has his very characteristic background reverb with with muted syncopated cymbal percussion –reminiscent of one of my favorite classics “My Friend Dario”, but with so much more depth. When you go buy the EP (out 03/22) make sure you play the Colonel Up and Mister Down remix a million times. ACES!

Vitalic – Second Lives (Original Version)
Now Kavinsky. This track is so mellow and really a big departure from his old stuff IMO. It was produced by Guy-Manuel de Homem Christo (longest fucking name ever??) and the final mixdown was graced by SebastiAn (the french community is in a real circle jerk also, huh?). You can definitely hear stylistic touches to the track from the 2 and I think their lending hands were essential to make this track what you’re hearing right now. Their styles are so unique that it’s really just undoubtable.
There are vocals from none other than Lovefoxxx our favorite darling from CSS and I want to say the modulated vocals in the beginning are from Vincent Belorgey (aka Kavinsky. He kind of sounds like a douche in real life, but ultra nice, promise!). Anyone think otherwise?
Either way, Kavinsky seems to be chugging steadily along in his 80’s videogame-ferrarri testarossa-dreamland just fine, and I am not complaining about it one bit.
Buy it here as a limited edish picture disc.

BONUSES!!
This is from Vitalic’s previous LP release “Flashmob”. See? on a steady roll.

Here’s the other released track from Kavinsky’s latest, “Pacific Coast Highway”. Complete with awkward/cheesy arcade shooting game narratives.

don’t worry. all the downed links can still be listened to on my hypemachine page.
ps: who would like to hear the breakbot remix of nightcall?

Slightly Maybe Micro Blogging (FLAIRS VIDEO)
March 4, 2010 | Filed Under music | Leave a Comment
Tumblr used to be microblogging, but now Twitter is microblogging. It’s way more minimal than Tumblr, but does that re-define Tumblr’s microblogginess? Tell me.
For a while I had my Tumblr feeding into the TUFTSMANIA facebook page, but recently cut that off (to save the redundancy for people who follow both) Now I don’t know what content to put on the facebook page. highlight reel?
I posted the Truckers Delight video on my tumblr when it dropped last year, and this year, Flairs’ newest video for “Radio” has been posted there as well. For those of you who don’t have tumblr or don’t follow, check it here. (also, do sign up for tumblr and follow. a lot of interesting things and reblogs happen there that may never make it here)
notable tumbles that i follow: bloodthirsty capitalist, pictures that look like this, nomads and bandits, terry richardson’s diary, j. jackson, inRGB, finally the illustrious human park

My last post was about Lorenz Rhode’s new jam and I somewhat mentioned his previous EP, Motor Cortex. Well, if you haven’t already gotten it, you’re missing out.
Here’s why: it’s awesome.

Lorenz Rhode – Motor Cortex
The original Motor Cortex track has one fucking amazing synth lick you first begin to hear around the 2:30 mark very faintly, it then comes back in full verse around the 3:30 mark. Sweating hard to that –feel me?
Hear the Ben Mono remix for yourself, it’s all aces. He adds some always welcome hand percussion + puts that lovely synth in the spotlight right at 2:19 and runs with it. so fresh.

Lorenz Rhode – Motor Cortex (Ben Mono Remix)
F-Zero? Mario Kart? Mega-Man? where have I heard that fluttery, airy polyphony?
Upcoming is a big post about some friends in Portugal…be on your toes.

You really have no excuse.
Lorenz Rhode makes no excuses and wrangles the FUNK out of that pitch wheel. This track gets real goooood around 1:45 with the synth guitar and just doesn’t stop. Watch the breakdown at 2:48 for some completely ridiculous keys and yes, that bassline is oh so necessary. WWWOOORRRRK IT.

Lorenz Rhode – Like a Player
Unfortunately, I don’t hear any actual Rhodes action in this track.
This second track I had to include because:
1. it’s a pretty big departure from his other stuff
2. it’s awesome
3. best track title of the month, possibly year.
It’s pretty minimal, but in all the right places. Not some fucking avant-minimal techno bullshit that has a barely detectable melody.

Lorenz Rhode – Telephone Helicopter Applause Gunshot
ALSO, be sure to cop his Motor Cortex EP which came out last year. It’s a necessary addition to everyone’s library.
ps: I’ve been facebooking, twittering, and tumbling a lot lately. xo <3

Right now, Australia is still one of my favorite places putting out TUNES/JAMS/MAGIC.
You’ve already heard it over and over again, and it seems they’re not letting up. Most notably, Bang Gang has been shaking things down. First major change was joining up with Modular last year and since then putting out amazing releases non-stop. Who could ask for more? Here are some lovely cuts from down hunder that I’ve been recently playing out but I’m quite sure very few of these are actually new to you.
Tenzin oh Tenzin. Biggest techno around! That is all. Play this in a big room with a big system.

Cut Copy – Hearts on Fire (Tenzin Remix)
What haven’t I said about Knightlife (even before the advent of tagging on tuftsmania)? He may have been my gateway drug into the world of the Australian Tune Factory. (Oxford Art Factory?) Anyway, hopping allllll the way back to the first time I heard Knightlife’s 2007 demo ‘Ambopop’ to now, the magic is still there. I can honestly say the demo is still just as good as it used to be –and his recent stuff is even better. That’s saying something.

Our boy Cassian! He’s one of Bang Gang’s freshest hit-makers and has been on a roll since before the new year! With his recent release of the Friday Night EP, people are just starting to get a taste of what this guy is all about. This remix of Polygon Palace is soooo fresh. Leveraging that delicious reverbed piano synth from the original, Cassian lays his magic disco touch on the whole track with finesse –bringing in a solid tambourine / hand clap track as well! sooo much vibe happening!
This track was actually supposed to be released under the CSK OK name, but somehow that was lost in translation. So here I present you –a properly tagged file! yew!

Polygon Palace – Tokyo Getaway (Cassian Remix) (CSK OK Remix)
Remember that fresh remix of Daft Punk ‘Around the World’ with the live guitar action? Yeah, none other than Nicky Van She and Dangerous Dan! This is Dangerous Dan’s newest solo release and it’s…SOFRESH!! It’s his rendition of the classic ‘Puttin’ on the Ritz’ and the break where it cuts to an original version of the song is OMIGOD awesome. I’m not sure which version of Ritz it’s from as there are quite a few renditions. I’ve only heard the Benny Goodman version and it’s pretty different.

I haven’t heard of any other Dangerous Dan solo releases prior to this one –anyone know if he’s got any other originals?
This isn’t quite Australian, but Hercules & Love Affair (amazing) made a splendid remix of Cut Copy’s Far Away (amazing). Mathematically that would be amazing^2, right? I mean, even if one were not amazing, it would still be amazing… mathematically. This holds true to the remixing world.

Wait, let’s step back for a sec…SPEAKING OF CASSIAN…. How good is his stuff??? It’s so good I’ve been playing a mixtape rip of Friday Night since 2009!! With the Friday Night EP finally out, I don’t have to do that anymore!!

Dangerous Dan & Nicky Van She – Around the World in 5.07 (again)
Boy that was a juggernaut of a post. Are we done with australia for a while now? ugh, probably not. (but wait, that’s awesome.)
Speaking of juggernauts, where’s the next album??? someone speak up.
