NEU OLD

i was concerned about something and came to a realization sitting in this boring ass class.

the concern: disco punk, electro house, electro clash, electro rock, new rave, nu wave.

the realization: IT IS ALL THE SAME. blame the shitty scenesters and their elitist attitudes changing genre names for “new bands” that are essentially the same shit.

bands like klaxons, been doing it for years and keepin things fresh. “but, what? they’re getting popular now?? what????! dog, we can’t have that… let’s ditch that shit and move on to a new band that sounds the same because we like the sound, but we can’t label them under the same genre cause that’s totally not scene at all.”

the BS said it best, i’ll quote them for the truth:
Step 1: Create genre. Combine two unlikely pre-existing genres (ie Disco Punk) or make something old New (ie Nu Wave).

Step 2: Hype, hype, hype. Find a bunch of bands that didn’t quite make the cut under Step 1 during the last cycle, and throw the new label on them.

Step 3: Have all the bands in this “new” genre remix each other. This step is very important. Cross promotion leads to Step 4…

Step 4: Declare that the genre is dead. Over. Fin. Tired. Last Year.

the genre ain’t over until the kids stop making the music. STOP THE HYPE!

i’ll end this with PASSIONS keepin the NEU OLD alive.

hello over there
