Alan Wilkis is Pink and Purple

It’s unfortunate that the vast majority of physical CD promos I get are stuff I don’t care to listen to. I usually get much better pickings (and much more shit) from what arrives in my email inbox but then again, I get a gigantic volume of email versus snail mail. Anyway, today is an exception.
Alan Wilkis sent me his new album Pink and Purple and…. WHAT A BLOODY SURPRISE. I’m being completely honest here, I’d never ever heard of Alan Wilkis and now kind wishing I had sooner. This sound is pure and shameless pop with a healthy 150 u/L drip of IV funk. Give me hand claps, crunked vintage synth, sslaaappin’ da baaahhsss maaahhnnn, a HORN and SAX (!!!!!!!!).
I need to mention that I don’t expect much from self-signed promo discs. CDR’s with sharpie labeling is perfectly fine for me. I couldn’t care less about what it looked like. The thing with this Pink and Purple promo is that it’s PRODUCTION quality. packaging, CD art, everything.
People, this guy’s self-signed and he’s putting out promos that look like I just copped something from a major. Take notes.
I’m hearing throwbacks to so many great and different classics on the album. Hall & Oates, Brian Eno, Bowie, of course Michael Jackson (RIP). Shit’s on lock.

Make sure you drop by his space and listen to every track in the player. Definitely recommend the album titled track, ‘Pink and Purple’.
Buy his self-signed release HERE or on iTunes
Someone cut this guy a deal or the MANIA™ label will have to be established sooner than I was planning. (if anyone’s interested email me for details)
PS: I’m hosting a nightly, bi-nightly, weekly, wheneverly internet dance party from now until whenever I choose to stop. Check twitter around 11pm PST I’ll be streaming the funnest shit live + MJ classics. Send me your own/favorite MJ remixes they will get airtime most definitely.
Keep up with me on twitter to find out exactly when we go live. I need to figure out a way to field requests… thinking twitter @’s will be the easiest? suggestions?

Oh, hey there. Just wanted to stop by and say hello. I’m still here, but barely…for now. To update you, I’ve been antisocial, keeping to myself and locked indoors; playing back records and music in the comfort of my own filth. Here’s a taste of what’s to come. You will be pleased.
Ed: It has a bit of a lazy start. apologies, I did this during breakfast. Groggy jones.

If you’ve been keeping up with this website for a while, you may have noticed I don’t necessarily blog about cutting edge-seconds-after-release brand new tracks. I have in the past and I might in the future, but as the days have passed I’ve realized that nobody gives a fuck who broke news of whatever hyped track first. For now and the future, all that matters to me is the lasting appeal of whatever it is I’m listening to. Everything is too short-lived these days and it’s honestly not a great thing. Savor these moments my friends.
You want the latest-cutting-edge-neu-LA-disco-dubstep-gonein60seconds hip shit? Find it elsewhere because all you’re going to find here is quality.
Miike Snow just released their self titled album and the single ‘Animal’ is obviously fun as hell. Not to forget the fact that anything Treasure Fingers touches turns into…..erm… treasure, he turns this pop escapade into screaming keyboard synth rampage. It might be ugly as sin in LA weather-wise, but it’s still summer and this bleeds it!

Also, the Crookers remix of ‘Animal’ is featured on the Miike Snow myspace and well, you know, whatever.
To Andrew: (fuck CITS^n x infinity), Them Jeans sent this to me a while back. I raved about it for a minute on twitter and somehow forgot all about it. MY BAD. never again. PUT YOUR BONGOS UP.
Feel this track. Them Jeans reworked the YYY’s ‘Soft Shock’ into a bongo-tastic summertime chill capsule. WE POPPIN PILLS. You need more bongo?

HOOOO. Caught a glimpse of the Boys Noize Starter EP on myspace a few days ago and let me tell you. Let, me, tell, you.
Everything you know and love from Boys Noize is there. The techno organ, the vague vocal, the wwaaaahhhh, and the wwwWWAAHHHHH. ‘Jeffer‘ kicks you into a funky filter rhythm before dropping the shuffling organ riff which eventually builds into the wild-massive main melody. This song has just enough weird to let you completely cut the music and just as people start scratching their heads, start Jeffer by slowly fading in on the intro rhythm. The reaction won’t be instant, but just make sure you bring the volume up to ‘Party Level™’ before the 50 second mark. Fire on the roof.
And, Yahtzee™.

…and what’s that? oh yeah,
BONÜS Material!
The Twelves, what more can I say about them that I haven’t already? Legendary techno-disco-pop born in Rio. This little gem was off of a 2009 Vectra GT promo disc featuring a few reworks of A-Ha’s classic ‘Take on Me’. Obviously, the only one worth beans was the Twelves track. Listen up.

ALLO. The summer weather in LA is uncharacteristic, for the lack of a better word. June is here and thunderstorms, lightning bolts, and rain loom in the skies.
To continue with my series of summer music, Miami Horror will be the first in line for this post. (These) Guys aren’t strangers in blogdom, nor are they strangers here. I don’t remember ever posting any of their original productions, but let me preface this and say, it’s ALL GOOD HOMIE. All you need to do is close your eyes and pick any track he’s ever made and it will be gold.
Summer sounds its best with Miami Horror’s ‘Make You Mine’ off of the Bravado EP. Hand claps, bongos, SUPER FLUTE, summer, summer, summer. I hear some ‘Music Sounds Better with You’ filtered guitar riffs in there too. A healthy addition to any throwback. Can you hear it?

On the topic of gloomy skies in LA, remember back to the last post in which I mentioned Breakbot being signed to Ed Banger. There was a remix I completely forgot about and it would have been quite fitting for the situation. Unholy matrimony at its best.
Breakbot remixed Ed Banger poster boys, Justice ‘Let There Be Light’. It is SO Breakbot, SO good. Have your drink in hand by the pool and let this ride.
