video update (updated)

NOTICE: there is a floating creature in the lower left. correct. I am a huge fan of this ‘internet balloon race’ …. you could win shit… or something. i don’t really know. anyway, i kind of like the cute animal. it will be here for a few days… or weeks… something.
I had to put this up to exemplify the fact that a music video can be ANYTHING. All that hinges on the success of said music video is the quality of the song. Subpar videos that are saved by awesome music, if you will.
take note: the same cannot be said about a shitty song combined with an awesome video.
disclaimer: I love Ladyhawke.
You may have heard an extremely catchy track featuring the voice of a female in my last mixtape. Modular Chris sent this tonight and I just had to smile about it. Ladyhawke’s ‘Paris is Burning’ is a highly solid track on its own merit. The same cannot be said about the music video featuring our favorite lady walking through various stages of events….
1. out the back door of a club, in an alley
2. battling drunk hobo in said alley
3. through a pillow fight
4. through a welding shop
5. finally ending up at prom with confetti
This just does nothing for me…. HOWEVER. It did EVERYTHING for me because the song is so good.
Think what you will, but it is my new mission to make shitty music videos over the best tracks I come across, and the magic of the sounds will prevail.
update: jason has informed me that he told Pip that her first cut of the video sucked. Upon hearing this, she promptly re-uploaded a new video. So this is actually version two. do any of you creepy e-stalking ladyhawke lovers have a saved flv? …. i mean, i’m sure it’s out there…. it’s not like i saved the rough cut of D.A.N.C.E. or anything…..
POOL PARTY @ TUFTSMANIA (tracklist in comments)

It’s been obscenely hot in LA and when it’s hot, you have a pool party. One of the requirements of a successful pool party is excellent music.
Who gives a shit about smooth technical mixing when you’re too busy blasting your friend with a Super Soaker 2000 Death Cannon Triple Barrel Lazer Machine Hydromaster?
exactly.
also, big ups to Hacks from Resonator Mag for reminding me about the 80kidz remix of “Knock Out”.

Franki Chan from IHEARTCOMIX also sent this little gem of a mixtape over to me. It has a tracklist that is pretty much all 5-stars in my itunes, so you should check it out.

PS: what’s the deal with hotlinking files? Obviously it’s an easy way to link to a file/mp3/whatever, but it totally kills me these days. I’m not making any money from this website, and when another site (sometimes even sponsored, to remain nameless) hotlinks to the files hosted on this site, I over-run my bandwidth allotment. I have TONS of bandwidth and it is usually pretty hard to do, but once it’s linked outside on other bigger websites, game over. There really aren’t any excuses with the multitudes of free online file hosting (zshare, megaupload, yousendit.)
I could care less about ‘being the first’ to break news on a track,
I could care less about getting credit for ‘being the source’ of a track,
and I could care less about getting a huge reader base.
Getting quality visitors works well enough by word of mouth.
So, other leechy music blogs, let’s show some proper netiquette…
…AND SAVE ME THE BANDWIDTH OVER-USAGE MONEY!
Buffet Libre saved my life

I have more than 1 reason to be thankful for these guys right now. Pizza, double cheeseburgers, spaghetti, delicious… all you can eat in Buffet Libre.
1.
For the past year or so, these guys from Spain have been putting out some of the most tasteful mixtapes I’ve laid ears on (aka the Verbena series). It’s less of the ‘computer mixing trickery’ and more of just straight pure awesome track selection. The mixing is smooth, to the point, and seamless. No tacky trickery here to make up for the mindless process of building your tracklist around what ‘the blogs you follow on hypem‘ post weekly.
2.
Today after my hellish first block of finals, I was looking for some relief and Marc from Buffet Libre was chillin in my mailbox to the rescue. I may not have ever mentioned here, but for the past months, a song has been haunting my memory. Ever since the day I tried to remember the title of it to play at a party. It would NOT come to me. From then on, a day hasn’t passed without me hearing the intro/vocals/rhythm of that mystery song.
That went on for about 3 months………and finally ended today. All thanks to…

If any of you guys are in Barcelona, Mardrid or Outer Space, make sure you check these spots out.

OH, and that one track that was stuck in my head FOREVER was from both paris natives–
The Shoes - Knock Out (Tom Deluxx Remix)
I can’t believe I forgot the artist/title of this track. It’s even 4 starred in my library. I’ve even blogged about The Shoes before. Hmm funny, that was right around finals time as well. anyways. time to study more.
live giving properties of music (who’d you CC today?)

Some smarty pants from a website which will remain nameless thought he/she would be cool and decided to BCC everyone instead of CC.
BOOO!!! you can’t kill it!
Message list is still going strong. There have been many a meme. People are even talking about the weather. Watch out twitter, your growing pains will be overtaken by the almighty CC list!
Well, for all those of you who are about to embark on a week of finals that may or may not kill you, here are some compressed audio files that will keep you alive.
After not hearing from Neon Coyote for a while, MOCIAS John hits me back with an amazing update. They’ve added a new player to the pack, Chico Love, and he’s fitting in quite nicely. He’s also a fan of stuffing an insane amount of tracks into a ~20 minute timeframe, so be ready for some nice A.D.D. induced mixing. I’m so down. Track list to die for. makin me bounce as we speaaaaak.

Le Castle Vania is no stranger in the blog scene. I think he has an LA and ATL identity crisis. Maybe the letters are confusing to him. Maybe he’s epileptic AND albino??? Anyway, his albino ass be mixing shit straight from the vampire demon lairs themselves. VERY ENJOYABLE, YES VERY.
Here he is remixing GRUM’s ‘Go Back’. It doesn’t really need any remixing, but the LCV remix makes it explode in the chorus. really. explosion. like huge. in a metal kind of way.
GRUM - Go Back (Le Castle Vania Remix)
Keep on rocking out and keep on replying to all, my friends.

bb update: just got out of a final to find another 20 messages on my bb. The mailing list is going strong!
The most astounding/interesting/perplexing thing happened this morning. Things went as usual. I woke up, brushed my teeth, fried an egg, burned the toast, then sat down for some quality 1 on 1 with apple mail. (yep, no shower, this is what future-scientists do)
Everything was going well and as usual: club promo, invites, mp3s, blah blah, label promoters being dicks, you know –the usual. ANYWAY…. I come to an email from Peter from the Outlaws. It’s got a mixtape, alright, sweet so I start downloading it. While that is going, I go to my next message.
I do a double take. someone pressed…..
REPLY TO ALL
and then… I saw it again… then again. The same title, but with more Re:’s attached and from different senders! By this point I could feel the excitement mounting in my happy little fingers. It had suddenly warped to 1982 and everyone reverted to using one of the earliest renditions of social networking known as ‘mailing lists’.

all those colored lines represent every time someone replied to all and re-quoted the whole message. there were at least 70 recipients on that list.
I think I just heard a little rip in the time/space continuum due to this.
The shirts are coming.
So thanks, Outlaws, for taking the incestuous blogosphere back to its roots. Get the mixtape that started this monstrosity here
long live the meme
I love you all.
Oh, I’m gonna throw down a list of tracks right here that came to the inbox the that a stood out. You know I’m not usually a fan of ‘mass track posts’, actually I don’t like that at all. But in the interest of time I’m gonna do it. Final examinations again. You know how that goes. All of these tracks are out of control, you must listen.
