Aside from the awesome original productions (which hypem is overflowing with), Danger also dips his skinny fingers in the remix production game. I recently came across this track which made the A/C in my house explode with random, PBR-wielding dancing hipsters crawling out of the vents.

I can guarantee that you’ll hear this coming from my and everyone else’s car/headphones/house/parties ….starting last month.

also, big ups to Hacks from Resonator Mag for reminding me about the 80kidz remix of “Knock Out”.

Franki Chan from IHEARTCOMIX also sent this little gem of a mixtape over to me. It has a tracklist that is pretty much all 5-stars in my itunes, so you should check it out.

PS: what’s the deal with hotlinking files? Obviously it’s an easy way to link to a file/mp3/whatever, but it totally kills me these days. I’m not making any money from this website, and when another site (sometimes even sponsored, to remain nameless) hotlinks to the files hosted on this site, I over-run my bandwidth allotment. I have TONS of bandwidth and it is usually pretty hard to do, but once it’s linked outside on other bigger websites, game over. There really aren’t any excuses with the multitudes of free online file hosting (zshare, megaupload, yousendit.)

I could care less about ‘being the first’ to break news on a track,
I could care less about getting credit for ‘being the source’ of a track,
and I could care less about getting a huge reader base.

Getting quality visitors works well enough by word of mouth.

So, other leechy music blogs, let’s show some proper netiquette…

I have more than 1 reason to be thankful for these guys right now. Pizza, double cheeseburgers, spaghetti, delicious… all you can eat in <font size="4"Buffet Libre.

1.
For the past year or so, these guys from Spain have been putting out some of the most tasteful mixtapes I’ve laid ears on (aka the Verbena series). It’s less of the ‘computer mixing trickery’ and more of just straight pure awesome track selection. The mixing is smooth, to the point, and seamless. No tacky trickery here to make up for the mindless process of building your tracklist around what ‘the blogs you follow on hypem‘ post weekly.

2.
Today after my hellish first block of finals, I was looking for some relief and Marc from Buffet Libre was chillin in my mailbox to the rescue. I may not have ever mentioned here, but for the past months, a song has been haunting my memory. Ever since the day I tried to remember the title of it to play at a party. It would NOT come to me. From then on, a day hasn’t passed without me hearing the intro/vocals/rhythm of that mystery song.

That went on for about 3 months………and finally ended today. All thanks to…

The temperatures in LA have been out of control lately. My normal bike route home which is usually very short and cool, resulted in me being drenched in sweat all week.

This is the time to have sweaty, debaucherous parties.

–but before all that, I need to finish school.

ENOUGH OF THAT.

MANY Thanks to all the people who send me demos, advances, mixtapes, nudes, and especially all the big name labels who, as of late, have been flooding my inbox with complete bullshit (and arguably shitty incomplete SAMPLES of songs).

But most importantly, thanks to all the people who send me high-bitrate mp3s. I cannot stress how much this means to me. Things like this tell me that you VALUE you own work as an artist.

To me it says,

“Hey, my work is tops, I don’t want it heard on anything but the best quality it can be. 320kbs all over your chest.”

I am probably more apt to respect your shit if you demonstrate some level of respect for it as well.

Something I can’t understand is an email consisting of,

“hey dude blogger guy, I don’t really give a fuck but you’re on the mailing list I made by crawling hypemachine, here’s my 96kbs track, feel free to play it live and post a blog entry about it.”

10 min later,

“oh sorry bro, i forgot to attach/link the file”

By this point, not only am I bothered that there was a message that failed to deliver with music, I was totally let down by the SHITness of the finally delivered track. Failure to deliver is such a bitch.

I will obviously not play a track that isn’t appealing to me, but I will sure as shit not play something that sounds like it was:
recorded off a ford fiesta fm radio into a lawyer’s spit-encrusted-dictaphone,
re-recorded onto your macbook through the built in microphone,
maxed out the input level because it wasn’t loud enough,
and finally re-compressed.

There isn’t enough time in a day.

hang in there, I’ve got a few weeks to go.

don’t have time to say much more… so listen.

First up is Sam Sparro’s synthy funk track, Black Gold. If you’ve never heard of the guy, peep his myspace and check ’21st Century Life’. I don’t know much about him, but from his myspace, he kind of looks like a douche. It says he’s on a ‘major label’. Maybe his PR team should hire a new ‘myspace-friend-adder-intern’ and fire this guy who’s making his image really douchey.

Anyway, The Videoband has a knack. That is, they choose tracks with potentially life threatening vocals, slice, repeat, distort, and process them into a beast that has new life and probably way more appeal to you and me. Black Gold is one of these instances. I don’t recommend the original track in the LEAST, but if you do accidentally listen to it with your pitchfork-loving friends, you’ll realize that The Videoband knows what’s up in the ‘vocal-lyrical-fucking-shit-up’ department.

Sam Sparro – Black Gold (the videoband vocal fix remix)
[See post to listen to audio]

Secondly, David Guetta needs no introduction. The Videoband shows us their take on Guetta’s ‘Delirious’. While this tracks vocals aren’t painful to listen to, The Videoband works their vocal remixing magic on this track and turns the vocals into instruments rather than stupid self-loathing words.

Voices as instruments? Less words, more sounds. Less people sounding stupid, more music sounding better?

David Guetta – Delirious (The Videoband Remix 2)
[See post to listen to audio]

PS: keep screaming for The Videoband to drop the Parisienne track. When they do, you’ll see it here.

So I’m over here in the United States, totally not having an awesome time, because the Australians are hogging all the good artists and hoarding them!!

It’s like those old fucking vietnamese ladies at the super market hoarding all the 50 pound bags of rice because of the ‘rice shortage‘

But whatever, thank GOD Al Gore invented the internet, because without it, I wouldn’t be able to feast my ears on this sinfully delicious audio porno as soon as I would like to.

Harking back to my (unnoticed) return to blogville where I outlined why I love australia; I mentioned only a fraction of what completes the awesomeness that is Australia. The other parts to that pie are still waiting to be blogged, but here’s another tiny slice.

For some reason, I’ve never mentioned Miami Horror. Probably cause everyone else blew their wads over them for the last 5 months….non stop. Quite unnecessary to add to the sludge fest… so I’ll just go ahead and assume that you know the know.

And here they are, once again, adding to the ‘big gay circle jerk‘, remixing Midnight Juggernauts – Road To Recovery.

Miami Horror knows what’s good. Don’t fuck with a masterpiece. So they didn’t. They threw some clean synths, some tasty bridge edits, some cuts here, some cuts there, added a sample or two, and DESTROYED THE FUCK out of it.

Midnight Juggernauts – Road To Recovery (Miami Horror Remix)
[See post to listen to audio]

thank you, may I have another?
…why YES YOU CERTAINLY MAY

This time, Miami Horror’s victim is Datarock who strangely isn’t from australia??? WTF>>> Nope. Norway. Fuckin norway..

Datarock – Fa Fa Fa (Miami Horror Remix)
[See post to listen to audio]

<font size="5"...FUCKING AWESOME thanks, Miami Horror, for breaking the incestuous australian circle jerk and branching out to Norway. The future of the world is probably safe now.

PS: I’m pitching a tent in my pants over the new Presets LP, Apocalypso. Buy it as soon as humanly possible. On amazon if you want.

PPS: Does anyone know Lang Lang personally? Does anyone know what makes him so bad ass? Does anyone know why he can levitate? Does anyone know why Lang Lang has a name, then another name?

I’ve been following Metal on Metal for quite a bit now but it’s been a chore trying to get into contact with them. Luckily, I have good friends in Lithuania hooking me up… you know who you are!

“…We don’t like this new act, called Nicolas Sarkozy though, he talks too much.” -Metal on Metal

Previously known as Nesakyk Mamai! or Don’t tell your Mom, Metal on Metal has been steadily infiltrating the ears of people all over europe. Why the HELL, don’t they get more love over here beats me. I seem to be interested in all the wrong bands??? (hellz no) Their originals and re-works are really something else and lately, they’ve been getting straight up grips of remix work on their plates. Just look at the hit list on their myspace.

I’m sitting on a most recent commissioned remix of Blood Red Shoes, which is a heavy track on its own, but with the MoM touch… fucking insane, no questions asked.

I’ll be over there. Blasting everyone’s brains out with this track. No big deal.

It seriously gets hectic, and I’d have it no other way. What? I can’t hear you, my ears are bleeding.

Keep checking their myspace for their latest EP, Slaughterhouse, full of original sounds, to be released in the future! You can bet it will be covered here as well.

I’ve been like, jizzing myself about them for the past… oh, year.

The Bloody Beetroots can throw their ’signature’ bass drum + snare + plucking synths + distorted/reversed vocals + stutter tracks on ANYTHING and make it sound gold, but is there anything beyond these sounds with the masked (all day long) italian producers?

Don’t get me wrong on this one, I’m not complaining, but let’s hear what you can do using something outside the box of beetroots.

Here’s a fairly recent remix of Secret Handshake. This band is part of a very…. interesting movement… which I like to call the emo-fag-failure-vocoded-electro movement popularized by the likes of Muscles et al. (who’s not gay –australia factor/remixed by gods –circle jerk effect).

There are a number of other land locked-united states ‘outfits’ not unlike these who have a cult following of teenage guys. I get depressed looking at their myspaces so I’ll leave the search up to you.

Vocoding is pretty gay, (used every day by akon and t-pain – very important that you click). Let’s leave the vocoding to Cher.

Sorry, derail, back to the track. Again, classic BBs sound (that’s short for Bloody Beetroots, yeah, acronyms.) The intro starts this track so well and builds it up into a string quartet, electronic blow-up.

touche my italian friends, touche.

Secret Handshake – Summer of 98 (The Bloody Beetroots default layers remix)

BONUS!!!! we’ve got the EP version of ‘Butter’ due out on the EP from dim mak soon! Assuming most of you have heard the draft version of Butter, and this is a prime example of ‘outside of beetroots box’ territory. Still has some vintage flavor but a slew of new and welcome sounds.

Bloody Beetroots – Butter

Watch for stateside releases of Bloody Beetroots LP/EP from your most well known ambiguously feminine asian w/ facial hair label mama….Steve Aoki, Dim Mak -reaping the benefits of music blogville since, forever and signing the bands. amen.

Here’s something australia does very well. –An insane original by Whitenoise whom I’ve swooned about. The synths they use are unbelievable and they cut right through EVERYTHING. You can have as much ambient noise as you want, but if you blast Whitenoise, everyone’s going to hear it and that’s what I like.

Australia, again. Look out for some more original tracks by Whitenoise soon.

These next 2 sound like the way I feel right now.

More from Australia, Cut Copy has been on the tip of my tongue for a long while now. Who could forget their ‘Future’ track and the multitudes of remixes? Here’s a track off of their upcoming album “In Ghost Colours”. (yes, the whole album is good)

The chorus makes me want to pee. and drink piss.

The backup vocal, oohs and aah’s, stoccato synth, slurry, slushy hi-hats…. so good.

Not Australia…but the UK! Mystery Jets have consistently been making quality albums, but their latest is particularly shiny. It’s pretty hard to top, but the Shoes remixed Young Love, put their little french twist on it, adds something that makes it AMAZING. (probably the french-ness)

also…what’s the deal? Did Mystery Jets rip off that “Music and Lyrics” movie song, “Way Back Into Love“?

Tell me what you think.

australia and france in one blog post, again? this is starting to look like 99% of all the rest of musicblogdom.

sorry.

For the past 2 weeks, all day, all weekend, I’ve been repeating the track I’m about to speak about.

you definitely want to

This track was immediately pleasing on first listen (just like star guitar was, and is). I wanted to make ABSOLUTELY SURE that this wasn’t some sort of shitty ‘great first impression-sucks on 2nd listen’ type thing. So that’s what I did. I stress tested the fuck out of this track for 2 straight weeks. So what do I say?

Verdict: Shinichi Osawa’s remix of Felix Da Housecat’s “Radio” cannot be stopped. No filler here.

For those of you familiar with Tokyo’s Shinichi Osawa, the track has all his signature sounds. The heavily processed-treble-infested high hats (tambourines for good measure), INSANE contrasty bass, and happy-oh-so-happy synth. I can’t get enough, the dancing kids can’t get enough, you definitely can’t get enough.

I haven’t heard the original track. Am I curious as to what it sounds like? Do I want to check it out.

nah. (i probably will anyway)

BONUS!

This monster track…as heard on TUFTSMANIA – Hubbub of 07 mixtape….

This past week has been destroying me. That is all you need to know right now. There was some sunshine in my week though…that’s what I’m gonna share with you.

To begin, I got an awesome track from Bryan Cox… you might remember the last track I posted, which blew minds. This is another heavy hitter along the same vein… fidget house in full force.

—->ONE THING MR. BRYAN COX... Perhaps I’m just immature, but I feel kind of silly with that ridiculous sample of a girl moaning, groaning and probably having the time of her life. I mean, the track starts out hard, and I get bouncing and all of the sudden it breaks down…into….an orgasm??? WHAT AM I SUPPOSED TO DO WITH MYSELF??? DO I KEEP BOUNCING TO THE ORGASM????????????? DO I GET NASTY TOO?????

Bryan Cox – Get Nasty (zshare)

The second thing this week that made it tolerable was Moustache March Reconnaissance…MMR if you will (not measles, mumps, rubella, you medical freaks). My good friend Jason over at inRGB is on the forefront of excellence in this respect. With Moustache March on the horizon, what better way to celebrate than by giving everyone you see a moustache?? Now you can.

Keep checking that spot for updates on how to get them, or you’ll find out right here.

Finally, some stuff that was being really good to me this week.

Arthur Argent – Hold Your Head Up (SOULWHACKED RMX)
