Got a couple new things at the top of my inbox early this week that just needed a quick “SUP”.

Let me break it down. New Kavinsky. New Vitalic.

Let me start in reverse alphabetical order. Vitalic. He’s been on a steady roll lately, amiright? (check here) This new one off his latest “Second Lives EP” is for the lack of anything better. awesome. It has his very characteristic background reverb with with muted syncopated cymbal percussion –reminiscent of one of my favorite classics “My Friend Dario”, but with so much more depth. When you go buy the EP (out 03/22) make sure you play the Colonel Up and Mister Down remix a million times. ACES!

[See post to listen to audio]
Vitalic – Second Lives (Original Version)

Now Kavinsky. This track is so mellow and really a big departure from his old stuff IMO. It was produced by Guy-Manuel de Homem Christo (longest fucking name ever??) and the final mixdown was graced by SebastiAn (the french community is in a real circle jerk also, huh?). You can definitely hear stylistic touches to the track from the 2 and I think their lending hands were essential to make this track what you’re hearing right now. Their styles are so unique that it’s really just undoubtable.

There are vocals from none other than Lovefoxxx our favorite darling from CSS and I want to say the modulated vocals in the beginning are from Vincent Belorgey (aka Kavinsky. He kind of sounds like a douche in real life, but ultra nice, promise!). Anyone think otherwise?

Either way, Kavinsky seems to be chugging steadily along in his 80’s videogame-ferrarri testarossa-dreamland just fine, and I am not complaining about it one bit.

Buy it here as a limited edish picture disc.

[See post to listen to audio]
Kavinsky – Nightcall (feat. Lovefoxxx) (link removed by request)

BONUSES!!

This is from Vitalic’s previous LP release “Flashmob”. See? on a steady roll.
[See post to listen to audio]
Vitalic – One Above One

Here’s the other released track from Kavinsky’s latest, “Pacific Coast Highway”. Complete with awkward/cheesy arcade shooting game narratives.
[See post to listen to audio]
Kavinsky – Pacific Coast Highway (link removed by request)

don’t worry. all the downed links can still be listened to on my hypemachine page.

ps: who would like to hear the breakbot remix of nightcall?

My last post was about Lorenz Rhode’s new jam and I somewhat mentioned his previous EP, Motor Cortex. Well, if you haven’t already gotten it, you’re missing out.

The original Motor Cortex track has one fucking amazing synth lick you first begin to hear around the 2:30 mark very faintly, it then comes back in full verse around the 3:30 mark. Sweating hard to that –feel me?

Hear the Ben Mono remix for yourself, it’s all aces. He adds some always welcome hand percussion + puts that lovely synth in the spotlight right at 2:19 and runs with it. so fresh.

F-Zero? Mario Kart? Mega-Man? where have I heard that fluttery, airy polyphony?

Upcoming is a big post about some friends in Portugal…be on your toes.

You really have no excuse.
Lorenz Rhode makes no excuses and wrangles the FUNK out of that pitch wheel. This track gets real goooood around 1:45 with the synth guitar and just doesn’t stop. Watch the breakdown at 2:48 for some completely ridiculous keys and yes, that bassline is oh so necessary. WWWOOORRRRK IT.

Unfortunately, I don’t hear any actual Rhodes action in this track.

This second track I had to include because:

1. it’s a pretty big departure from his other stuff
2. it’s awesome
3. best track title of the month, possibly year.

ALSO, be sure to cop his Motor Cortex EP which came out last year. It’s a necessary addition to everyone’s library.

You’ve already heard it over and over again, and it seems they’re not letting up. Most notably, Bang Gang has been shaking things down. First major change was joining up with Modular last year and since then putting out amazing releases non-stop. Who could ask for more? Here are some lovely cuts from down hunder that I’ve been recently playing out but I’m quite sure very few of these are actually new to you.

Tenzin oh Tenzin.
What haven’t I said about Knightlife (even before the advent of tagging on tuftsmania)? He may have been my gateway drug into the world of the Australian Tune Factory. (Oxford Art Factory?) Anyway, hopping allllll the way back to the first time I heard Knightlife’s 2007 demo ‘Ambopop’ to now, the magic is still there. I can honestly say the demo is still just as good as it used to be –and his recent stuff is even better. That’s saying something.

Our boy Cassian! He’s one of Bang Gang’s freshest hit-makers and has been on a roll since before the new year! With his recent release of the Friday Night EP, people are just starting to get a taste of what this guy is all about. This remix of Polygon Palace is soooo fresh. Leveraging that delicious reverbed piano synth from the original, Cassian lays his magic disco touch on the whole track with finesse –bringing in a solid tambourine / hand clap track as well! sooo much vibe happening!
This track was actually supposed to be released under the CSK OK name, but somehow that was lost in translation. So here I present you –a properly tagged file! yew!

Remember that fresh remix of Daft Punk ‘Around the World’ with the live guitar action? Yeah, none other than Nicky Van She and Dangerous Dan! This is Dangerous Dan’s newest solo release and it’s…SOFRESH!! It’s his rendition of the classic ‘Puttin’ on the Ritz’ and the break where it cuts to an original version of the song is OMIGOD awesome. I’m not sure which version of Ritz it’s from as there are quite a few renditions. I’ve only heard the Benny Goodman version and it’s pretty different.

This isn’t quite Australian, but Hercules & Love Affair (amazing) made a splendid remix of Cut Copy’s Far Away (amazing).
Wait, let’s step back for a sec…SPEAKING OF CASSIAN…. How good is his stuff??? A time in 2004, before the mania, when I just heard Justice remix We Are Your Friends, before Uffie changed her name to Ke$ha, when Hipsterrunoff was probably still getting his Business degree somewhere in Texas or NOLA, when techno was ‘gay’.

That dirty, dirty bass synth, that pounding kick… I was listening to old Bach records tonight and really got in the mood for baroque harpsichords (my own obligatory addition of trombones and tambourines).
We really need to revisit the tuftsmania classics.

During my absence I took some time to taste what was out there in the real music world.

Alternative still sucks,
Modern Hip-Hop/RnB/Black People music (no racist) for the most part sucks except for R. Kelly (crazy motherfucker) and Gucci (still doing his thing from jail wordup),
Country was saved by Carrie Underwood (luv u babes),
Pop music will always be amazing [sup @taylorswift13 (love u lanky ass bitch) @selenagomez (+ her whole baby-disney crew omgzz luv u) @katyperry (xoxo) @ladygaga (love u crazy ass bitch/bro).]

Now back in unicorn fairy blog music land, here’s something from blog-decades ago. Pilooski does his thing on Jarvis Cocker’s “Discosong”. In this case, Pilooski’s ‘thing’ means making something sound better no matter how good it already is.

[See post to listen to audio]
Jarvis Cocker – Discosong (Pilooski Mix)

That said, it’s truly a joy going through my inbox and listening to all the rough poorly composed shit people send me because you know what? Whether it be a single lick, a nice sample, killer drums –there’s at least ONE genuinely good thing in all of them.

(that one good thing might also be the silence at the end of the track)

Luckily my friends at Binary and Nightwaves were eager to help. Feeling like a match made in the dreamwave heavens, a connection was made between Despotz Records‘ own ultra-pop-funk O’Spada and Binary’s Nightwaves. They were given the task to remix/rework/whatever you want to call it O’Spada’s latest single, “Ten Strikes”. After just a short time they were ready to deliver the final product.

The result: TWO amazing renditions of one excellent original track. yew! Taking the original clean-cut/pop-funk groove, Nightwaves, took O’Spada to the land of bongos and reverberating synths. They did what they do best by creating an impossibly dreamy atmosphere and turned this squeaky clean track into a dream of cosmic proportions. TWICE.

take note: BONGOS BONGOS BONGOS!!!!

So which one is your favorite? Both? Thought so. No, but really. Let’s hear it.

For those of you who are just joining the mania, O’Spada is AWESOMELY fresh. You can hear what I posted about them a while ago, here.

FUCK YEAHHHH FEELIN’ IT!!!! His original production level has really taken a step forward and it shows immeasurably on this EP. Cheers to you.

Here’s the 2nd track from Fake Blood’s ‘Fix Your Accent’ EP, called:

“I Think I Like It”
[See post to listen to audio]
The track has pipe organs, claves, cowbells, disco strings, and mysteriously pitched arabesque sampled vocals still making me think of vintage bombay cinema (totes awesome). Can someone cut this track into a Bollywood flick?

Anyway, it came out in September so if you missed it the first time around, make sure you snatch it from Beatport. The whole EP is good, and it better be because it’s only 3 tracks.

Last time I heard a (remix) of Noah and the Whale that tickled my fancy was by our boys from Rio, The Twelves. Back is Noah and the Whale with another promo package and this time resident Los Angeles dreamwave champions Nightwaves were called to the task for an official remix.

For those of you who have been following Nightwaves from the beginning, A+ to you, but for those of you who haven’t –this is HUGE. The Nightwaves repertoire of sounds and vibe has grown so much and they recently had a spot on NBC LA for an interview segment about music in LA.

The depth of this remix captures the effortless cinematic effect of an ordinary sun setting over the DTLA skyline. I can’t seem to think of a better way to describe it.

Binary is currently touring the west coast so catch them when they’re in your area!

ALSO, french house maestro Strip Steve drops disco bombs on his new EP, DELTA DISCO, out on Boys Noize Records. Some really great stuff is coming out right now and this only gives me hope that ‘10 is gonna be certified insane for new releases. This is a cut of the new EP and also happens to be the first track. sup baby.

He’s blessed us this morning with his latest work remixing The Scare’s upcoming single. If any of you follow my tweets, you may recognize this track from the funky little ‘Body Torque’ minimix that GLOVES whipped up a few months ago.

Yama forgoes most of the original melody samples and leverages some choice lyrical cuts creating this poppin’ disco masterpiece. Yes, my friends…. 2010 is going to be great. Watch out for upcoming GLOVES remixes for Miami Horror in the near future!

image: happy birthday LB

First it was about Binary’s release of LA Lights (fully killing the LA scene), Kitsune’s excuse to see naked skinny people for KM8 (fully killing everything), and now I simply CANNOT get over how good Bang Gang 12’s first official compilation album is (fully killing on the molecular level).

Earlier this year BG12’s (link to probably the best made label blog in the industry, sup kripy) joined forces with Modular (I totally called it. what’s left, Cutters?). Anyway, the kings of all things ‘pun’ just released the first official BG12’s Radicool Compilation featuring super hits and upcoming unreleased gems from their artist roster and WOW. Let’s just say the first track is Shazam’s ‘Hello Cat’ and the rest is history. The comp comes on 2 discs. First one being a selection of single tracks and the second being a fully mixed jam session by Doom and Hoodrat, the two label bosses at BG12’s.

First watch this promo video as Gus da Hoodrat takes you on the “Academy of Art” experience.

Next, you’ve heard at least couple tracks on this compilation on this website for sure. (PYX, Destination etc)
Here’s something I haven’t posted, but it’s on the comp, which you really need to get. Coming up smack in the middle of the first disc is this gem from Cassian (that stands for awesome). Sampling only the best of arcade fighting games…
[See post to listen to audio]
Cassian – Final Round

With that, listening to the full compilation and listening to the mix doom and hoodrat threw down, I honestly can’t wait for what ‘10 has in store. Namely Cassian’s ‘Friday Night’. TUUUUNE! (you can hear it on the mixed disc)

BUY.

damn. feeling pretty wet right now. can someone send me a TUNE towel so i can dry myself off?
