Euphorie and the Story of French Techno
February 17, 2010 | Filed Under music | 10 Comments

I make these with my hands. Email me if you want one $25 USA, $35 INTL.
Hey remember when ____ was big in ____?
Euphorie takes me back to a better time in blog land. A time in 2004, before the mania, when I just heard Justice remix We Are Your Friends, before Uffie changed her name to Ke$ha, when Hipsterrunoff was probably still getting his Business degree somewhere in Texas or NOLA, when techno was ‘gay’.

That dirty, dirty bass synth, that pounding kick… I was listening to old Bach records tonight and really got in the mood for baroque harpsichords (my own obligatory addition of trombones and tambourines). Euphorie read my mind and delivered a platter full of filthy harpsichord synth arpeggios.
We really need to revisit the tuftsmania classics.
ed: i guess there was no story of french techno. was that what you were expecting? piss off, why don’t you go listen to some Roulé or something?

As you read this, an email sent by myself is floating through a series of tubes and will ultimately end up at someone’s computer. The person who reads (or doesn’t) this email will:
0. read then delete
1. delete
2. read and laugh
3. read and angrily respond
4. read and respond with “:)”
5. read and respond but then get sidetracked by internet pornography.
Any of these is fine by me, because I’m going to post it here without first waiting for any kind of response from the other end –why? Because I can.
Here’s the story:
I’ve been getting a new kind of email. First I thought it was a neat new distribution scheme, but I started getting the same style of email from different ‘labels’ and ‘artists’. I thought nothing of it, but the low bitrate files kind of bothered me (along with the mediocre music). I thought it was maybe a fluke and I’d get some higher quality ones but they kept coming.
Anyone know what their deal is? I feel like they’re from the same marketing firm/agency. I’ve never heard of ANY of these labels and/or artists either so it seems possible that they’re actually just different aliases.
I wrote a pretty pissy rant a while ago, and again, and probably will again, but that isn’t the point.
OK….TIME FOR A BLAST FROM THE PAST!!
This is an amazing gem I came across while in France a couple years ago, by way of Silicon Boogie (RIP). Anyway, I’ve been on the heels of half of Silicon Boogie aka: Golden Bug ever since and here’s something to get you hooked. (also check out the label mashup which houses all their side projects. Silicon Square Garden. + houses the other half of Silicon Boogie’s new project “ROVE DOGS”)

3, 2, 1………..after a ludicrous amount of final examinations.
tired, relieved, exhausted, SO FUCKING HAPPY.
SO FUCKING DONE
…until next week. But that’s just what I do.
Here’s something australia does very well. –An insane original by Whitenoise whom I’ve swooned about. The synths they use are unbelievable and they cut right through EVERYTHING. You can have as much ambient noise as you want, but if you blast Whitenoise, everyone’s going to hear it and that’s what I like.
Australia, again. Look out for some more original tracks by Whitenoise soon.

things i love: parisian lyrics (when they’re in english)

It’s pretty much a given that I will love any track The Teenagers sends out to its e-audience. If you haven’t checked out their tracks, you must, and you will.
I love parisian lyrics (when they’re in english) because they are brutally and perhaps unknowingly honest. Somewhere in the translation of french to english, something happens that strips the words of all ulterior meanings and kinda slice you right across the throat. That semi-gay-retard sounding (totally cool) parisian accent just adds to the honesty of the words.
Those of you who know me know that I NEVER listen to lyrics, but this is where I make my exception. That’s gotta be saying something.
Here’s a Poney Poney (awesome, stream junior 345394934 times on myspace please.) remix of the Teenagers – Love No. Just listen to the monologue!!!
The fact that the track itself is awesome is almost secondary this time.
big ups to the big ballers at redthreat for putting this one up!!

The Teenagers are definitely veterans here. In case you were born yesterday, here’s a live mix they did in ‘06 for Pharrell of the FLUOKIDS on his radio show, “miam les fruits” with radio campus. It is tops.

to FRANCEMANIA.

I’ve been blasting Teenage Bad Girl for days in my car. Coming out of France, they bring none other than the sickest electro ever? it’s a little dark and completely satisfying.
did I mention that I <3 vocoders? yeah. there's lots of that.
