This is about Matt Van Schie. Yes, the one from Van She.
He’s been doing his solo thing for a while now with the not-too-long-ago debut solo release of the fun “Balmy Nights EP” –while his bandmate, Michael Di Francesco is doing remix wizardry under the name Arithmatix!. (need more van she tech circa 06-07 in my life)
There has been a stream of remixes to supplement this EP release and a chilled out remix of Matt Van Schie by none other than Hemingway is nothing to scoff at. In fact it’s bloody amazing. Anyway, it is known fact that Hemingway makes magic yacht funk.
From bassline to keyboarding, everything is dialed for maximum funk. This vibe is a complete departure from the original track and it’s pretty refreshing (suffice to say, I enjoy the original material as well).

Who likes “How to Make it in America“? At first I only watched it to see the intro with pictures Bronques took of the people I know in real life. But then I heard a fat man say ”fuck selvage, that’s hand-dyed indigo from a left handed weave.”

Who else would I be talking about? Hemingway brings us back to his 116ft super yacht for an intergalactic space-cruise through the milky way of funk.
Just as I was feeling the yacht-funk vibe taper off, James Harris aka Hemingway brings the vibe to new heights with his rework of Keenhouse’s “Ari-es” taking us to interstellar-bongo-yacht-funk critical mass. Believe me when I have said and now say again, Hemingway ain’t nothin’ to fuck with.
This remix is being released in promotion of the upcoming Keenhouse single release through our super dreamy friends, Binary Records. The guys over there are doing really good things in LA and are having a huge bash celebrating their first compilation album, “LA Lights” next week. (FREE. Tues Oct. 13 @ the Echo)
Yes, I’ve listened.
Yes, I’m vouching.
Yes, it’s awesome.

Yacht Funk master, Hemingway just dished this one out to me which promptly made my pupils dilate and ears perk up with anticipation. It’s fun to watch as Hemingway continues to build his repertoire of sounds –especially the way he uses certain elements. I’m so down.
You last saw him early this year with a remix of Pelifics, and now he’s back with a remix of The Virgins‘ “Rich Girls”. It’s not as poppy as The Twelves remix, but it’s soooo funky, buttery disco. hand claps, spank da bass, run da bass, hand claps, butteriest piano synths ever, MONEY!
Seriously though, look out for the soprano synths @2:00 into the pseudo talk box synth @2:37?? WHAT???? then the bass solo breakdown @3:25. It’ll make your nose bleed.
