Who else would I be talking about?  Hemingway brings us back to his 116ft super yacht for an intergalactic space-cruise through the milky way of funk.

Just as I was feeling the yacht-funk vibe taper off, James Harris aka Hemingway brings the vibe to new heights with his rework of Keenhouse’s “Ari-es” taking us to interstellar-bongo-yacht-funk critical mass. Believe me when I have said and now say again, Hemingway ain’t nothin’ to fuck with.

This remix is being released in promotion of the upcoming Keenhouse single release through our super dreamy friends, Binary Records. The guys over there are doing really good things in LA and are having a huge bash celebrating their first compilation album, “LA Lights” next week. (FREE. Tues Oct. 13 @ the Echo)
Yes, I’ve listened.
Yes, I’m vouching.
Yes, it’s awesome.

Digital release of “LA Lights” will be next Tuesday and it will be available EVERYWHERE. In the meantime, stream the hell out of it here.

So now enjoy the whole reason of this post, Hemingway’s vision of Ari-es.

…and we’re back  –Along with some old friends!  Remember the sometimes cheeky, but always pearly MISSINGTOOF? After a brief hiatus with plenty of R&R they’re back and ready to displace your dentals once again. So head on over and murder some bandwidth!

So, what has been going on in MANIA land lately?  We’ve been working on some projects with a few fantastic local tastemakers to put out events such as the amazing success that was BLOG VOLTRON: Pool Party at the Standard DTLA. Stay tuned for more fun pool parties… can you say Endless Summer? The weather won’t let up!

Next, I have a new portraiture series called ‘Bach Tree Luggage‘ and it’s merely an infant right now, but is enough to keep my itchy-trigger-finger happy for now. I’m tossing around ideas about what to actually do with this series at the moment, but rest assured, it will see the light of day.

Now I’m absolutely positive you didn’t give a fuck about what you may or may not have read, so here’s what’s occupying my ears and should occupy yours as well.

First is the seemingly ubiquitous and editorial favorite, Breakbot remixing Pacific!. I’ve mentioned both (breakbot) and (pacific!) in the past, but here is their marriage in one track of sonic delight. You can expect the most perfect piano riffs, the classic Breakbot drum samples –all on top of Pacific!’s butter-smooth vocals.

Pacific! – Hold Me (Breakbot Remix)

Who honestly doesn’t love a good ‘ol Bang Gang? One of my favorite AUS labels newly merged with Modular, they’re poised to take over Z world. Or just free up their minds to make really good sounding music. With winners under their umbrella such as Shazam, GLOVES, and Bag Raiders, the label might as well call themselves “All the good music in Australia”. Alright, enough of that, this might as well turn into another “Australian Circle Jerk” post. This is one of their more recent remix adventures with Damn Arms (RIP). Bang Gang’s DOOM and Gus put a happy throwback twist on Damn Arms’ ‘Destination’. Watch out and brace yourself for the tom-rolls and hand claps…YUSSS.

BONUS~!
The next post coming will be some delicious hype on a certain LA collective releasing a certain debut compilation album, and here’s a tasty hint:

Can you guess it?

note: some of the links were for myspace, many were for twitter. FIGURE IT OUT!

addendum: breakbot: awesome, pacific: awesome, everyone on bang gang: awesome, dreamwave: awesome. add on twitter, facebook….wherever else you find the mania.

I know many of you have heard of Keenhouse, but have you really HEARD Keenhouse? You really just need to take a second to hop onto hypem and check what he’s done. Notice that it’s ALL top notch?

As I write this post I’m listening to Keenhouse’s first EP, released last year, for the first time all the way through. I wish I had done this sooner. Overall, simply put, it’s awesome. Highly melodic, phrasing, key progressions, depth, it’s all really impressive and pretty unbelievable for a first release. After some discussion with the boys at Binary, I’m starting to understand why/how this was possible. I don’t want get into the nitty gritty right now, but let’s just say they tell me he’s well trained in the classical sense. It’s really a shame this album kind of flew under the radar and didn’t get the hype it deserved. Let’s change that.

Keenhouse’s next single Civil Transit is going to be released with Binary. It’s right on the horizon and the remixes + a hype storm are starting to take shape.

Here’s a little taste to get the ball rolling. First up, Anoraak with a reaaaallly dreamy rendition of Civil Transit in full force with the ever so slight reverb on plucky arpeggiators. atmospheric.

Keenhouse – Civic Transit (Anoraak LAX Remix)

And this is a lick off the original EP to whet your appetite, this is the first track and it hits the ground running. Starts out heavily LFO’d and drops into a rhythm reminiscent of french touch. Perfect Keenhouse. Is that a genre yet?
