music blog aggregator shenanigans: an update

A couple days ago, I received an email and wrote about it here.

Well my friend over at HIPSTERRUNOFF got the same email, and so did earwigsandwax

Apparently we all share the same idea. There’s also a discussion going on over at Elbo.ws and it seems as though the qerio guys, along with their request to ‘link to us’, are now openly disclosing the fact that they will leech bandwidth directly from said sites.

I might not have been so bitter had they disclosed the same information to me instead of going, “Hey, you are a chosen website, link back to us.”

Is this a new form of marketing? Piss off enough music blogs to create buzz? holy shit am I being controlled like a puppet?

EDIT: OHMY GODDD I FORGOT TO MENTION. i can now die happy because i’ve been blogged about on hipsterrunoff

So, today was kind of a bum day, and to top it off, I get an email from this funny guy:

so I am thinking awesome, some music ‘aggregator’ website added me and I didn’t even have to beg/perform sexual favors/pay money??? awesome, right?

only in dreams for this poor music blogger. I go to the said website and wait for it to load. All I see is a flash music player in the middle of the window with the ugliest color palette I’ve ever seen. I think to myself, fair enough, it’s about the music right? The player starts playing and I begin to wonder to myself, who’s playing? I scan with my mouse to see if there are any clickable dropdown menus, links anything that will tell me who I’m listening to…..NOTHING??? ok, next, pull up the safari activity window to see if there’s a track title associated with the music file….but what??? what’s this I see?? The music files are being streamed from OTHER MUSIC BLOGS!!

Alright, at this point I have so many obscenities running through my mind, but I decide to keep it cool and reply in a very high-level intellectual manner. Here’s how it goes:

fear not, the night is still young and there is rumor that a new Royal Rumble edit of Soulwax will touchdown right here on TUFTSMANIA in the next hour…AND MORE!
